Name CDMI Chapter Cloud Hosting
Goal As a client who targets multiple development platforms I want to interact with an object storage system using a well defined, standardised interface.
Description The Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) is a stable specification from the Storage Networking Industry Association. It is complimentary to the Open Cloud Computing Interface. CDMI allows the management of data regardless of backend (e.g. iSCSI, NFS etc) and still allows technology-specific endpoints.
Rationale Adoption, support and implementations of open standards should be widely given in FIware. Implementing a standardised interface to object storage will reduce the overhead of maintaining multiple interfaces, increase interoperability in the case that multiple providers supporting the same standard, reduction in APIs leads to consistent, consolidated developer tooling and reduced learning curves (less APIs to learn).
